For centuries the music of Spain influenced the music of Cuba: in the later years of the 20th century we saw a reversal of influences with the rise of rumba flamenco in Spain. Now at the start of the 21st century we see another type of cross-fertilization between these two counties: what is essentially a Spanish flamenco troupe using a tres: a Cuban three-string small guitar-like instrument to help accent its music, which is much more traditional Spanish gypsy than the rumba flamenco we've gotten so used to in the last thirty years.

We hear the clicks of the dancers' shoes, the moan of the vocals, and all the interplay between the nylon strings of the guitar weaving between the steel strings of the tres: something so new yet sounding as old as the hills.

No, you can't salsa dance to SON DE LA FRONTERA - but listening to this cd will blow your mind.
