FRENCH MUSIC
Paris Combo melds jazz and pop together in an eclectic, fun, but somewhat dis-attached quirky way that many people love - even those who don't actually love their sound find Paris Combo entertaining and amusing. Lead vocalist and lone female Belle du Berry doubles on accordion, while guitarist Potzi gets a great deal of attention because his playing owes a great deal to the style of the much-beloved Django Reinhardt. He even is aware of Django's later electric style, which is sparse compared to his earlier acoustic work. David Lewis plays trumpet and bugle (now, that's unusual) as well as piano and melodica (which sounds a bit like a chromatic harmonica). Mano Razadajato plays bass and handles the backup vocals (chorus). Francouis Jeanin is the drummer. MOTIFS is similar to Paris Combo's early works, but differs slightly with the idea of different motifs for different tunes or selections of the album. Throughout 14 tracks the band never loses its sense of cool: no wild displays of emotion or musicianship, but if you listen closely, the band members do have the musical skills to cut loose - but if they gave in to the urge, it wouldn't be Paris Combo anymore.
