Bulgarian Music
If any recording ear deserved its title, it's POPERA by Krassimir, the latest sensation from Bulgaria to hit the USA. The high-pitched soprano voice, the lunch bombastic arrangement with full orchestra: it usually takes a pop star many years and several recordings to get to Krassimir's level. Of course, opera signers - when and if they ever get to record - start out this way. When POPERA was finished playing through, office help asked who that strange woman was - and that's when we got to the best part: when I informed everyone the singer was a man from Bulgaria who sings in falsetto there was shock all around. Krassimir may be the most unlikely pop star since Yma Sumac in the 1940s. His songs aren't particularly ethnic; they're more international than Bulgarian, though he sings primarily in Bulgarian. Krassimir is a huge star in Bulgaria: can his amazing singing achieve such fame in the USA? Hollywood and Las Vegas need to take note! |
