Sila and the Afrofunk Experience

Funkiest Man In Africa

Many a time I have listened to an African artist and thought this music is so hip, so modern, yet rootsy - if this person just sang in English, this could be a hit in England, the USA and the world. Now it's happened: a singer/songwriter from Kenya has come to San Francisco. He writes funky post-James Brown tunes with a strong African influence and he sings in English.

Sila sings of the African experience: the problems he and many others face every day, in a language understood throughout the world. James Brown would be proud. We love it. Will the world embrace it? We hope so.

Sila and the Afrofunk Experience  is definitely not traditional African music, but it's better and more real than most African-American music being recorded today: it's not nasty rap or treakly-sweet mindless pop, and it's much better than R&B, with a touch of jazz, lots of funk, and that general African pop sound found all over Africa.

If Sila and the Afrofunk Experience doesn't get you up and dancing, you've probably lost it.
