CAJUN/LOUISIANA MUSIC
Apres Faire le Boogie Woogie has to be one of the most delightful, fun Cajun recordings I've ever heard, and I've listened to quite a few in the last 35 years, including Cheri Amis, the first cd by the Magnolia Sisters. With established Cajin 'star' Ann Savoy and family-name people like Christine Balfa (Christine is a part-time member of the group) you know right off this is going to be authentic, deep roots music: no Nashville Polish here . Magnolia Sisters consists of four women who take turns singing lead and playing various (mostly acoustic) instruments (Ann Savoy plays electric guitar on 'Keep a Knockin'). The songs go back to the 19th century up to the 1950s. Three members are fiddle players with varied success. The most beautiful cut is #4, 'Cher Willie (Dear Willie)': a ballad sung with lovely vocal harmonies. If you like old-style Cajun and Zydeco music, APRES FAIRE LE BOOGIE WOOGIE is pure delight and a 'must have'. And the Sisters version of the New Orleans classic 'Keep a Knockin' has to be the swampiest-sounding example of 'swamp pop' I've ever heard.
